How Learning Has Changed When was the last time you sat down and played a video game with your child? When was the last time you actually won? Try it sometime. Then tell your child to call a friend and talk to them on their cell phone while playing. You will probably still lose! Why? Our children’s brains are expanding to meet the needs of a whole new world. A world filled with multiple visual stimulations and instant decision making. Our children have the ability to process visual and kinesthetic information at an unbelievable rate, strengthening the natural abilities of the right hemisphere of the brain. While the logical, language-based elements of the left-hemisphere of the brain are as important as ever in our fast-paced world, there is an increasing demand to capitalize on the ingenuity inherent to the right side of the brain. Learning large amounts of information through the manipulation of visual images, making split-second decisions, and taking risks in the learning process are increasingly more valued skills. The human brain is amazing in its ability to adapt and grow. Our children have made this new leap as part of their experience - our children are designed to learn differently than we did. |
